Colorado Trip - Days 1 and 2

We decided to head away from the heat of KC and spend 5 days in Breckenridge, Colorado this summer!  Luckily Grandma and Grandpa's house is just about halfway between KC and Breckenridge, so we left on a Saturday morning, stayed there Saturday and Sunday night and then drove the rest of the way to Breck on Monday morning.

We were packed to the brims - plus we had a car topper with more stuff in it!

Grandma and Grandpa took us to a festival in a nearby town on Saturday night.  We had BBQ for dinner and they had a little train for the kids to ride and a small parade.

Now this is Drew's kind of parade!!!

After that they had turtle races!!  I did not even know that was a thing.  Apparently you have to catch yourself a turtle beforehand, then they put numbers on all the turtles and put them in the middle and the first one that reaches the outside of the circle is the winner!

It was so funny.  Grandpa tried to find a turtle for the boys but couldn't find one.  Luckily another lady whose kids had raced their turtle in the first age group overheard us talking and she let the boys race their turtle.  You can kind of see it in Jack's hand.  Poor guy didn't win.  :(  After the turtle races, they had fireworks!  It was a fun night!

Sunday we spent hanging out at the farm.  The boys rode the 4 wheeler a ton and Drew had a blast mowing the grass with the big mower.

Colorado Trip - Day 3

Monday morning we headed out bright and early to get to Breckenridge!  

Grandma and Grandpa's isn't too far from Colorado, but it was still exciting when we crossed the border!

I set a timer in the car and every hour I would bring out something, either candy, toys from the dollar store, new snacks, etc...just to break up the drive a little.  First up today was a little silly putty fun...

This kid has a major snaggle tooth!  Wonder if he will make it back home with that tooth or not!

I spy the mountains!!!

We arrived in Breckenridge around 3:00 and headed straight for the townhouse that we were renting.  We were supposed to be able to check in any time after 1:00.  Well.....slight snafu...we got there and the place hadn't been cleaned yet from the guests before us.  I called the owner and apparently there was a miscommunication with their cleaning person.  After a few calls back and forth, she arranged for the cleaning person to drive up and clean it but it was going to be at least a few hours.  We couldn't unload any of our stuff yet so we ventured out on a little walk and then it started to rain so we went back, got in our car and decided to check out Main Street.  I had heard about a good restaurant that had arcade games so we headed there and the kids were pumped!  They got to play games while we waited for our table and our food and they had great pizza there - win win!

After we ate we walked down by the river a little bit.  The kids thought it was so neat how you could walk out onto the rocks and in the shallow water.  It was such a cute little town!

The owner texted me that the townhouse was ready so we headed back and unloaded our car and then went down to check out the pool and hot tub for a little bit.  I didn't take many pictures but they loved swimming even thought it was NOT hot outside!

Colorado Trip - Day 4

We decided to head up to the top of Peak 8 for the Fun Park on Tuesday morning.  These boys loved their first gondola ride!!!

There was so much to do at the fun park - we planned on staying a few hours and ended up pretty much being there all day.  Luke headed straight for the bounce house - he was calling that little girl "my pink friend"!

Little man was EXACTLY 30 pounds when they put him on the scale, which was the minimum weight to jump on the trampolines.  He thought he was pretty big stuff!

Our next stop was riding the ski lift up to the alpine slide!  I remember riding this when I was a kid and the boys loved it - they couldn't get enough!  We had to go back and buy an unlimited ticket for Luke too because he loved it so much after his 1 ride.

So fun!!!

There was an enormous pile of snow for the kids to climb on - Drew climbed to to the top and Luke was so excited to throw snowballs but ended up crying because his hands were cold.

Next we hit up the mining area and came home with bags of really cool rocks!

The boys did this tubing run approximately 3,256 times.

After all that fun we rode the scenic chairlift up to a higher part of the mountain.  We rode right by the Ski Watch condos (in the background of this pic) where my family stayed when we came to Breckenridge to ski!  We would ski down these runs and ski right into our condo!

We got off the chairlift at the top and took some pictures of the scenery.

There weren't many people around but we finally found someone to take a picture of all of us.  The first picture he snapped captured Jack almost falling down the hill.  :)

I took about a million mountain pictures.

                 

Finally back on the gondola heading back down the mountain for a very late lunch!

Later that afternoon we decided to explore around our townhouse a little bit.  We found a little creek - thank goodness I had thrown the rainboots in the car at the last minute. Only problem was Drew doesn't have any that fit, so he had to wear my pink ones if he wanted to get in the water!

Luke didn't nap of course so he was in bed early and we pulled out some of the games at our townhouse to play.

Then this happened - this guy lost his other front tooth!!  Good thing mom had also thrown in the tooth fairy box at the last minute!  He was so excited and you bet the tooth fairy found him in his top bunk in Breckenridge.  ;)
